Adults and Workplace Assessments
In the workplace, previously un-identified learning difficulties can cause problems in a number of areas, causing frustration and stress for the employee and perhaps tension with other colleagues.
A person may be aware of having difficulties, or these may be noticed by their manager or fellow workers and may include:
I see many adults who have self-referred, or who have come for an assessment on the advice of their manager at work.
An assessment can help to identify why such problems are occurring, establish what ‘reasonable adjustments’ could be made within the workplace, also the kind of support that may be helpful in acquiring more effective coping strategies and work-place skills.

- organisational problems or/and time-management issues
- poor report-writing skills
- problems with completing forms
- a tendency to forget instructions or messages
- inability to take in and retain new information without notes
- problems with taking minutes or note-taking in meetings
- slow or/and poor reading or writing skills
- poor interpersonal skills
- limited attention span and/or difficulty completing tasks
- poor attention to detail
- word-finding problems when speaking
- interpreting information too literally
